Household Hazardous Waste
The Jackson County Household Hazardous Waste program was created to help Jackson County residents with the disposal of toxic household products and to provide an exchange program for usable leftover products. Common products are: paint, aerosols, solvents, adhesives, pesticides, acids, antifreeze, used oil and household cleaners. (No empty containers) Product containers that are brought to the facility must be clearly labeled as to their contents. Waste from commercial or agricultural business cannot be accepted. If you can use any of the products made available through the exchange program, you may have them at no cost.

Disposal of Needles - Household syringe/lancets must be disposed of with household garbage, NOT with recyclables. Place in puncture-resistant containers with secure lids or caps. Usable containers include: coffee cans with reinforced or taped lids; commercial sharp containers, plastic detergent bottles with screw caps or plastic cap bottles.
Disposal of Medications - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office participates in the "Take it to the Box" program which provides safe disposal of unneeded medication, prescription medication, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. A Drug Disposal Box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the lobby of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. For more information visit: Jackson County Sheriff Office Services.
Disposal of Appliances & Electronics - Residents within a municipality should check with their local City Hall to see if they have a special collection scheduled. If a collection is not scheduled the following options are available: Waste Management (Dickinson County Landfill), 800-833-9596; Cottonwood County Landfill, 507-831-2441; Nobles County Landfill, 507-478-4596 or 507-376-9218.
Mattress Disposal - There are a couple of options for mattress disposal - depending on the condition of the mattress. Consider reselling or donating first if the mattress is in good, clean, usable condition. If the mattress is not in good usable condition - but is not excessively soiled - the Cottonwood County Landfill has a recycling program. If the mattress is too soiled to recycle, check with the closest landfill for disposal options. For more information on mattress disposal, visit: https://www.mattressnerd.com/mattress-disposal/
