Jackson County’s 1% Sales and Use Tax Starts April 1, 2025

Starting April 1, 2025, Jackson County will have a new 1% sales and use tax. The Minnesota Department of Revenue will administer the tax. Businesses that collect sales tax will receive a notice from the Minnesota Department of Revenue at least 60 days prior to the tax starting. The notice will include instructions on collecting and reporting the tax.

Jackson County’s 1% sales and use tax was approved by voters at the November 5, 2024 election. The sales and use tax will be used to help pay for a new law enforcement center, jail and government center. It’s estimated the tax will generate $17.5 million over the next 25 years to help pay for the project.
